Better at Home Care was set up in 2015 by Dr Sharon McCann (PhD), a former Health Services Researcher at the University of Aberdeen, Health Services Research Unit. For many years she led and championed research on health care users and the contributions and experiences of people who use health services.

In May 2018 Sharon handed over the ownership of Better at Home Care to Donna Reid and Matt Davies who bring with them a dedicated passion and commitment for the care industry. Both Matt and Donna have strong backgrounds in person centred roles including life coaching, people management and the care of children with special needs.

In addition, both have personal experiences with elderly loved ones where care assistance was invaluable in providing companionship and support with domestic tasks. With this, they were able to retain the comfort of life in their own home.

They are acutely aware of the importance in maintaining independent living for the elderly in their own home, developing a care plan tailored to the specific needs and support of the client. They continue to ensure the service excellence that Better at Home Care has provided since it began.

As a privately owned home care service, Better at Home Care specialises in providing companionship, social support and domestic home care assistance which people could use exclusively on its own, or as a “top up” to any other services they may receive. In particular, for seniors living in rural areas, these types of services can be vital in supporting them to remain living independently in their own homes and communities.

We are a companionship, social support and domestic home care company and do not provide any personal caring to clients in their home (e.g helping with personal washing, dressing, continence care, medication reminders etc). However, we take our responsibilities very seriously and so as a matter of “good practice” we ensure our home care assistants are personally interviewed with full references checked and are subject to full PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Adults) checks.
